Roman numerals

In our maths class today we talked about Roman numerals and what the different letters stand for.

Ashley made this very detailed explanation (in her own time!) to explain how it works to us. We have decided that the Romans must have been very good mathematicians!

What numerals would you use for the number 13? 56? 101?

Someone in our class wanted to know what the numeral is for 1,000,000... Do you know?

The Big Shadow By Georgia

"Jade, Jade, Jade" I try to shout but very quietly. "What's the matter?" She whispered, she made a big grumpy frown. I flicked my torch on it flickered and then went very bright, to bright though because a big shadow stood outside our tent.I felt I was being blinded by an eclipse and wanted to run right away from my tent.Jade almost screamed when she saw what I was talking about. I tried to snuggle down into my warm cosy sleeping bag but the other Jade had stolen my sleeping bag off me. I could hear all of the crickets chirping. I felt so scared, every time we talked all we could hear was ''ssshhhhh'' coming from the big shadow. I was shaking so hard I thought m heart would stop beating.The worst thing was that we didn't know who the shadow was.It could of been a stranger or any body, my dreams were scary for the rest of the night!

I could have just run up and done a shot.
I wish I could have fast-played it until it was my turn.
It took hundreds of years until it was my turn.
Even though I was bursting with excitement, I was shivering with fear.
I got confused so I fiddled with the arrow.
While I was fiddling I accidentally let go.
I had got, wait for it...........RED!!!
It was the first time doing archery in my whole life and I had got red!
Suddenly I felt wild, shooting my target.
I was so delighted.....so proud...... I just couldn't believe it!!!
I didn't know how to act.
I wanted to scream and jump as crazy as a monkey but I just calmed down.
After a few goes like that, my Guardian Angel: Jeremy said, "JooHui the champion of archery!"
Why had he said that?
I mean, some people got bull's eyes and I kept getting red.
I was confused like a person with no brain.
Why?.....Why?

I could hear terror screams in all places."Why did I get myself in this mess in the first places? "I thought 

to myself ''aggrrr'' said a creepy dude the  words glided out of his mouth. all the stones nearly tripped me over.I felt that my life was at a end." Come on jamie you can do it'' I slowly explained to him.I had been relieved when the teacher said that there were no spiders. when is it going to end  I thought to myself. I was bawling my eyes out of my head.I was going to die if this did not finish sooner or later. Finally it came to a end .People were hearing the noise of screams and laughing while it was still going.

Finally it ended it was as dark as a wolfs coat howling to the moon.

The funnest concert ever !!!!by brier

"Hugo and Jamie hold the tarpaulin , everyone else get in your places and remember to put your goggles on your head " Yelled Cherryl trying to get ready . Two minutes before it starts lets go ! "Camp  concert, camp concert "Emma yelled .I felt like I was a 20 year old trying to fit a five year olds togs on . But it was not the togs, it was the feeling ,if someone would mess up or need to do something else .Most of all was the crowd . What would they think ,find it that funny so that they fall over ? "welcome on stage the trekkies !" welcomed Mr Laird . As the music started the trekkies hearts pounded hard ,as voices  giggled. "What do we do,do ,we do "voices asked . So we decided to pick-up our water guns and splash everyone .As we walked off the stage we all heard a big round of applause , feeling proud .

Flipping Flying Fox

I was shaking as I was getting my harness on.I could see the beautiful trees as they swayed through the wind.Then off I went down the wire on the flying.SCREAMING as loud as a hyena.As everyone blocked their ears as hard as they could.But when I got off I was SOOO ECSTATIC with my self .So I said to my self"maybe it is't so bad after all I just need to believe in my self,that's all".

• "Go girls", step ,step,RUSTLE!!"WHAT WAS THAT"!!"Oh Jess do stop freaking out"! Kiara whined." OH NO", I said my eyes wide with SCARED written boldly on m head. "sshh" said Kiara in a haunted voice. I whimpered was I to be the unlucky  victim in the next James Bond movie? high trees towered over our heads.Bloodcurdling screams pierced our ears, tangoing though my quivering back . "IIII GOT YA!!!Growled a lowered voice,"AAHH"!We screamed  a rubbery sickly hand patted my leg ,, I shouted and pulled it away and smacked it HARD!The leaves under our feet

The Scariest Flying Fox

I don't want to go down! NOOO! This is the scariest flying fox ever. What if I hit that branch or hit my head on the tyres really badly?! I thought this was going to be a fun flying fox not a scary flying fox. I think this is too high for me! It was a beautiful hot sunny day at Tui Ridge. At the flying fox there was a wire and you had a harness. You jumped a 3 foot platform. They had a steel gate with a green and red button to shut and open the gate. I was brave and rushed down the flying fox. I was thrilled that I did it! I wanted to do it for the rest of my life! It was awesome.

Are these real bow arrows can I have a turn I asked I grabbed 3 arrows it keeps on falling of. I keep getting confused what I could shoot the arrow on.I was scared what if I accidentally hit someone with the arrow and what if I pull the arrow too far back and it goes in the woods and gets stuck very high in a tree 123 I shot the arrow the arrow hit the red part from the target.

"Sending rider down" "all clear" ready to go she said "ok? 3 2 1 GO ARRRRRRRR! this is so much fun blood shut up. I felt great  My mouth was as long as lake Taupo. My face as red like Mt Taraweras  lava. I was going as fast as the speed of sound. I felt like going 10 billon times I was so thirlled that we got to do it a 2nd time. My turn next sending rider down WEEEE! My turn I felt so happy 3 2 1 go my heart run and jump out of my mouth move your head ok miss it the best think ever.

Yay were finally going to archery oh yeah.We ran like cheetahs to the archery area oh I have to go last that stinks well at least I get to have a turn...yay it's my turn bam!!! oh so close........yay my turn again bam yes! I got a bullseye "one more turn people"...bam yay my last turn and I got a bullseye best day ever.

In the morning I pop out of bed to do archery. I screamed when I got there "weeeee" the arrow flew everybody screamed out loud I was running around and laughing I was eager to carry on but we got 5 turns each. I was using all my strength to pull the string and shoot another bullseye. I nearly got it but it was on the line and when I finished my hands were shaking from pulling the string really hard.I was pleased thatI done it.

Help!I shouted dizzily,"get me out of here" I started to feel nauseous my arms started to flail. I pushed everything in the darkness I was desperate to get out of this smelly damp horrible prison. I felt like someone in the dreaded Alcatraz. I started to pound the walls in desperation to get out.my heat beated at 1000 beats per second I silently declared to myself that if I braved through the flying fox of course I could endure this I reached out and heaved open the door and let the filtered forest light flow steadily to my eyes I was finally free of my long drop prison.

I felt blood curdling as I got strapped into my harness and my pully. I could hear the frightening screams of the person in front of me. Holding on so tight to the rope I would not let go. when I pulled my hands of the Rope. they were as red as a tomato. I jumped on the flying fox she pushed me down I felt like a bird flying in free air. I could feel the breeze in my face I thought the people inline could hear the frightening screams of me to. I could feel the branches off the trees rubbing against my legs. As I hit the tire and flew forward I gripped firmly on the rope. Thinking I was going to fall off. And back it went as I got off the flying lining up again waiting for my next tern and waiting to do it all again.

Slippery slide

Slowly bending down,I put my hand on the wet soapy mat.

my head was pounding.I felt nervous and frozen like an ice cube in Antartica . the water swaying from side to side. Soap trickling down my legs.I push off and away I go like a rocket.the water diving on top of me my eyes are closed .Im nearly at the bottom.splash I go flying in the air .my heart was beating so fast .I felt proud of myself my legs were shivering madly.

Ahh! I screamed as I went down the flying fox. Whee! I said  as I slowly went back up .When I got down and the harness was taken off of me.  What we had to do was when some one got off the flying fox they would have to take it up all the way to the next person. You would take the helmet, pulley and the harness. Lots of peoples knees were shaking and there faces were red. I didn't feel that at all, in fact I was the best one there because I was the first one to go down the flying fox . Then we had lunch it was delicious mmmm!! We had a sausage sizzle . When we went on again it looked higher. My face went red like a tomato nooo!!!

The mysterious tenting night

Darkness had taken over day ,the misty clouds shifted across the sky and the trees echo in the wind.My back quivers ,nerves sprinting around my body while I walk to the tent.I see the grass being tortured by my shoes.I climb into the tent slowly wondering if I could make it through the night.I fall onto the mattress the softness calms me.Slowly my fear slips away with my happiness.I drift a sleep waiting for the sun

Wall of freedom. By Emma!

I was shaking all over, I didn't know what to do, should I walk away?NO I was going to do it,I was going to conquer my fears.Brier.P went first.She made it look so easy.as I took my first steps down the abseiling wall I knew that I could make it.At this moment I felt so nervous I had butterflies in my stomach.Just then I realised that I was jumping down the solid,mossy abseiling wall like a kangaroo."Woo,hoo,yeah, I knew I could do it" I said to Brier.P. I just wanted to stay all day or at least have six more turns! But we only had two turns because we didn't have lots of time. The Phenomenal thing was that I was the only person out of my whole group that went down with my hands behind my head. It was a beautiful day.

The deadly abseiling

"Oh my god" I said when I could see the abseiling wall, it was HUGE. After the lady told us how to do it Paul said "who would like to go last" I put my hand straight up I was shacking. I wanted to see how scary and how hard it was and each time I looked down the rock I would be nervous. Each time someone would come up I would say "was it scary or hard" they would always say " no it was simple' and I would say " it looked scary and hard". oh no now it is my turn as I take my first steep  I can tell that it was scary and hard.

The Flying fox by Jade D.

The only thing that was in my mind, was what every one was talking about... The Flying Fox!
I remembered that my friends had told me that the flying fox was the best part of camp!
My palms were sweaty and my body felt like jelly. I just had to believe in myself.
I carefully stepped into my harness and pulled it up over my waist. The instructor clipped my onto the pully. I let go, all of my worries slipped out of my head.
"Woo Hoo!' I shouted as I zoomed past my friends, "This is so much fun" I yelled out. "Bang" my head had hit the tyres! Suddenly I flew backwards and I felt a small tug on my feet, "the ride was over," I said to myself. As I got unhooked, I took of my harness and walked over to my friends , "you're right" I said, "The flying Fox was the best part of camp!"

DOWN  DOWN  DOWN

The music started all I could was people laughing , I marched on to the stage like I was in the army  I felt really humiliated. Jamie and hugo held the blue tarp tight. I bellyflopped (fail dived) and crawled along like a sleek cat catching its prey.I lay on my back and stuck my legs up 'one two three ' I said to my self as I did the leg routine. Next we did a swaying motion like a tree swaying in the wind. I sprang up like a jack in the box finally the surprise had come we jumped up with water pistols and squirted everyone with water 'ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhh' they screamed.
